Trump signs order for task force to ‘eradicate anti-Christian bias’

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to establish a task force to “eradicate anti-Christian bias” in the federal government.

Trump announced earlier in the day at the National Prayer Breakfast that Attorney General Pam Bondi will oversee the task force.

“We’ll work to fully prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism in our society and to move heaven and earth to defend the rights of Christians and religious believers nationwide,” Trump said.

He added that Bondi would be tasked with prosecuting such cases, as the task force looks into “anti-Christian targeting and discrimination” across federal departments and agencies.

The president’s comment came as he spoke to the crowd of lawmakers in Statuary Hall on Capitol Hill, and later to faith leaders gathered across the street at the Washington Hilton.

“If we could ever come together, it would be unbelievable,” Trump told the bipartisan group of lawmakers assembled before him.

The Task Force to End the War on Christians will include members of Trump’s Cabinet and relevant federal agencies, according to a White House fact sheet.

Members will review the practices, conduct, and policies of all federal departments and agencies to identify and eliminate any anti-Christian bias. The group will seek input from faith-based organizations and other affected parties to develop recommendations for further action.

Trump has been open about the growth of his faith in the aftermath of the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump has repeatedly said he believes his life was spared by God that day in order for him to fulfill his mission of accomplishing his MAGA agenda.

“Deep in the soul of every patriot is the knowledge that God has a special plan and a glorious mission for America and that plan is going to happen,” he said.

The president also said he is forming the White House Faith Office, which will be led by Pastor Paula White, who previously delivered the invocation at Trump’s 2017 inauguration. She also served as the president’s senior adviser on the Faith and Opportunity Initiative in the White House Office of Public Liaison.

“I really believe you can’t be happy without religion, without that belief,” said Trump, stressing the importance of religious traditions in American culture, and calling for a national revival of faith practices.

“We have to bring it back much stronger,” he said, adding “Let’s bring religion back, let’s bring God back into our lives.”

In addition to restating his support of building a National Garden of American Heroes, Trump also called for a major upgrade to the U.S. air control system, following the tragic American Airlines crash into a military helicopter last week that left 67 dead near Reagan National Airport.
