What’s at stake for the Eagles

Validation, mainly, for Saquon Barkley, Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts.

Barkley has the chance to be the star of a Super Bowl champion, demanding respect as a veteran running back in a market that hasn’t been kind in recent years.

But there’s plenty of pressure to share. Despite the 48-20 record Sirianni and Hurts have amassed during their four regular seasons together, fans have found their faults.

Sirianni has been criticized for displaying too much emotion, for the inconsistencies of the Eagles offense and for some choice calls during games. And Hurts, while applauded for his running ability, has been questioned for his passing performances. Hurts threw for nearly 1,000 fewer yards this regular season than last (3,858).

A Super Bowl victory would make the case they’re the greatest coach-QB tandem in franchise history.

Reid not going anywhere after this season

Kansas City fans know there will come a time when Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will play under a head coach other than Andy Reid. But team owner Clark Hunt said Monday, days away from the franchise’s fifth Super Bowl appearance in six years, that time is not soon:

“I was always surprised when I heard those rumors (of Reid’s retirement) because I know how much fun Andy’s having. He, in a lot of ways, is rejuvenated by the success the team’s had. Certainly, he’s matched with the quarterback that’s the perfect complement for him in Patrick. I know he loves what he’s doing.

“I know for a fact he’s going to be back next year.”

Mahomes on Super Bowl: ‘I enjoy it every time’

Patrick Mahomes is meanwhile appearing in his fifth Super Bowl. But the 29-year-old insisted earlier this week that each appearance is as special as the last.

“I’m so appreciative of where I was drafted and the team I have around me. I know that it’s a special run that we’ve been on. Every time I’m here at media night or on this field at the Super Bowl, I’m gonna appreciate those moments, because you never know when it will be your last one.”
