Patricia ‘Patti Lou’ Schmid (Akins)
Patricia “Patti Lou” Schmid (Akins) 76, of Embarrass, was received in God’s arms on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Essential Hospital in Duluth surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 21, 1948, in Soudan the daughter of John and Angela (Vesel) Akins.
Pat met the love of her life David in Tower where they were married on 5-14-1966. They built a beautiful life together in Embarrass for the past 47 years. She was the proud owner of Pat’s Hair until her passing.
Pat was a devoted, energetic, loving and witty wife of 58 years. Spending time with the two of them you were guaranteed to see laughing, spouting and a whole lot of love. Without too much complaining, she attended more car shows and stock car races than any wife in history.
She was a mother who loved lavishly with her children in the good times and hurt deeply with them in the tough times. There were not many days that she wasn’t on the phone with each of them.
She was a grandmother who lacked no excitement each and every time a granddaughter walked in the door. She never missed one of their events, she shared her love of cooking with them, loved to travel with them and was not afraid to rock out at a concert with them. She truly let them feel like she loved them more than life itself.
Pat was generous with her time and talents. She defined what it means to be a hard worker. For 45 years customers sat in her beauty shop chair, and she whole-heartedly cared and listened. Pat, Tandy and Norville spent many years catering to raise funds for a new church kitchen and needs at Camp Siegel. She spent over 10 years cooking and organizing the Sand Lake Shuffle cancer walk. She also spent many years on the credit union board; and found the time to help with groceries or meals with her elderly customers in need
She was known for her ability to not just cook but cook well. Whether it was for 300 people or just her and dad, she created meals that were “To die for,” her coined phrase.
Pat had many hobbies and joys. Even though she always had beautiful nails and was known to bring a curling iron camping, she could bait a hook, clean a fish or dig in the dirt in her garden like no one else. She loved growing vegetables and flowers and decorating her beautiful yard. She was infamous for her big pots of booyah. She dabbled in theatre with her church friends. She never passed up a garage sale. She had the time of her life with her Florida gang for January and February in Panama Beach. Mostly, she loved to laugh, never passed up an opportunity for adventures with family and friends and always looked for ways to have fun in life. A life of 76 years that was well lived.
She is survived by her devoted husband Dave of Embarrass; Children: Trina Townsend (fiancé Richard Holtz) of Milton, WI, Susan (Don) Kline of Pine City, MN, and Tom ( Darcie) Schmid of Embarrass ; The light of her life, her loving granddaughters: Lindsey (Jared) Jackson, Sam Schmid, Angela ( Matt) Ewald, Jessica ( Jacob fiancé) Schmid, Taylor(special friend Alex) Kline, Grace Townsend; and very special great grandson Anthony; Siblings: John (Leslie) Akins of Washington, Stella Soraparu of Washington, Fred (Terri ) Akins of Washington and Kathy (Gary) Salmela of Soudan; Brother-in-law Jim ( Mary) Maki of Winton, MN; Sisters-in-law: Jean Loushin, Becky (Steve) Coy, Barb(Jon) Christofferson, Lizbeth (Steve) Smith.
