Republican members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation are asking the House Committee on Ethics to investigate Rep. Angie Craig for using her official office to promote campaign events.

In a letter sent Wednesday, Reps. Tom Emmer, Brad Finstad, Michelle Fischbach, and Pete Stauber claimed that Craig, a Democrat representing Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, may have violated House rules by using taxpayer-funded resources for campaign purposes.

“House Ethics rules clearly prohibit Members of Congress from using official resources to promote political events,” the lawmakers said in a statement. “Yet, Rep. Angie Craig used her taxpayer-funded congressional office to further her political ambitions by publicizing campaign-sponsored events and soliciting donations for political fundraising.”

Craig is currently considering a run for U.S. Senate.

The letter, addressed to House Ethics Committee Chair Michael Guest and House Administration Committee Chair Bryan Steil, details various actions by Craig that the Republicans argue amount to misuse of public resources.

Specifically, they cite an April 5 op-ed Craig published in the Star Tribune announcing her plan to hold town halls in Minnesota’s four Republican-held congressional districts. The following day, she promoted the op-ed through her official congressional social media account, @RepAngieCraig, reiterating her intention to visit districts outside her own.

Later, on April 16, Craig’s political campaign social media account promoted the same town halls—set for Grand Rapids, St. Cloud, Willmar, and Mankato—and directed supporters to her campaign website.

“These ‘town halls’ which were initially published and promoted through Rep. Angie Craig’s official office, are now directing people to Rep. Angie Craig’s political campaign website and soliciting support for her political campaign,” the letter states.

The Republicans noted that House rules forbid the use of official resources—including office equipment, staff time, and communication channels—for campaign purposes.

“The integrity of the House and the trust of the American people in our institution demand full transparency and accountability in matters of official conduct,” the lawmakers wrote. “Misusing public funds for campaign activity undermines the confidence of our constituents and the principle that elected office should be used to serve the people, not advance one’s own political ambitions.”

They urged both the Ethics and House Administration Committees to review Craig’s conduct and take “any steps necessary to ensure full compliance” with House rules.

Alpha News reached out to Craig for comment but did not receive a response.
