NASHWAUK—Employees of Mesabi Metallics Company, LLC dedicated their day to picking up trash and debris along Highway 169 on Wednesday from Nashwauk to Keewatin. Mesabi Metallics sponsors this portion of the highway through the State’s Adopt a Highway volunteer program.

“When it comes to taking care of our community, Mesabi Metallics employees always step up,” Joe Broking, Mesabi Metallics President & CEO. “One of our top values at Mesabi is sustainability. That starts with our environmentally conscious operations and extends to our commitment to promoting clean, safe communities. The highway cleanup initiative is a meaningful way for our team to give back to the community and live our values, and I’m proud of our team’s dedication.”

In total, the team collected 32 large trash bags of litter on Wednesday, making a noticeable difference in the area. This is the second employee cleanup that Mesabi has held on this stretch of Highway 169, which the company has sponsored since 2023.

This initiative is part of Mesabi Metallics’ ongoing commitment to sustainability and community involvement. The company minimizes its environmental footprint through innovative practices and efficient resource management, with an eye toward enabling the production of decarbonized Green Steel.
